The Jaden Cornelious Foundation was formed in 2009 for the direct distribution of funds raised by, for and on behalf of the causes supported by Jaden Cornelious. http://jadencornelious.com/the-jaden-cornelious-foundation-north-devon-uk
Having raised over £9,000 for breast cancer charities during the latter months of 2009 and early 2010, we are now raising money and awareness for the Amazon rainforest.
Do you realise how desperately important the rainforest is to all of us, no matter what country you live in? The Amazon rainforest supplies us with 30% of the world's oxygen. It is known as the lungs of the planet and the world's natural pharmacy. In the last 17 years part of the rainforest the size of the country of France or the state of Texas has been destroyed.
The survival of the Amazon has great ramifications for life across the planet. A healthy and intact Amazon rainforest will help stabilize the climate patterns on which world economies and ecosystems depend, and will continue to serve as the planet's greatest storehouse of biodiversity, sheltering a vast array of species of potentially profound value to human health.
The Amazon rainforest is the most diverse terrestrial ecosystem on the planet. Despite covering only approximately 6% of the Earth's surface, it is home to more varieties of plants and animals than any other place on Earth. This astounding level of biodiversity has already shaped the course of human history in a variety of ways, such as providing the first cure for malaria, and the first source of rubber, which helped fuel the industrial revolution. Yet only a small fraction of the species in the Amazon have been examined for their potential benefits to humankind.
Meanwhile, deforestation, which has already claimed nearly 20% of the Amazon's original primary rainforest, continues at a steady rate. At the same rate the Amazon rainforest disappears, so diminishes our opportunity to understand this ecosystem and its relationship to other life on Earth.
SO WHAT ARE WE DOING ??????
In June 2012 The Jaden Cornelious Foundation is organising a sponsored hike of the Amazon rainforest in Peru to raise awareness of the importance of the rainforest and to raise funds to help indiginous peoples to buy back their land rights, to protect the forest, their communities and traditions!!!
The trek is supported and in conjunction with ACEER – Amazon Centre for Environmental Education and Research http://www.wcupa.edu/aceer/
Here's where your sponsorship money will go:
$25 will provide supplies for a rural village school
$50 will teach school children about conservation and stewardship of the Rainforests
$100 will provide conservation training to elementary school teachers
$375 will sponsor a village school
$500 will provide conservsation education to Peruvian university students
So you see, no matter how little or how much you are able to raise to give to ACEER through the JCF, you will be making a huge difference to the local peoples.
People from ALL over the Globe will congregate in Peru for a 9 day trek and educational experience through the rainforest ...there will be bus and boat travel and also an opportunity to sightsee....with an optional extra trip to Machu Pichu at the end of it.
SO ARE YOU INTERESTED????...
We want this to be the BIGGEST AMAZON HIKE EVER...we hope to have it filmed and to invite celebrities to join us in the cause !!!!
